Dear Fulford Academy Community,
It is hard to believe that a month has passed since we transitioned into our online learning platform.
At Fulford Academy we knew long before Covid-19, that online learning is the way of the future. Forward and progressive thinking is part of our ethos. We listened when our students said the uniform policy was outdated, we were one of the first to establish teaching language through content to increase comprehension in our ESL classes, and we saw and addressed the need of accessing Advanced Placement courses by putting them online.
The internet has provided us with the opportunity to continue learning anything we want from the comfort of our homes. This has meant endless opportunities in education. At Fulford Academy, online learning aligns with our belief that all students should have access to quality education and that all students should be supported in their learning.
Some highlights of our online programs include:
- Courses can be accessed at any time, anywhere, and all materials are available online.
- We offer both blended and synchronous models using the Google Classrooms platform.
- Our Programs meet the high standards of the Ontario curriculum in a way that only Fulford Academy can: by integrating science, technology, engineering, math, and the arts (STEM+A) in a way that prepares students for post-secondary studies and challenges them to get ahead through Advanced Placement courses.
- Teachers ensure language acquisition through the use of videos, voice recordings, and one-on-one meetings.
- Students participate through conversations, debates, discussions, group work, and various assessments.
- Teachers are committed to encouraging and supporting different learning styles.
There are many challenges we are all facing these days. One thing that will remain constant and predictable is our student’s access to their education. Our teachers have been online supporting our students for the past month, and will continue to be there to chat, teach, and encourage.
